My approach to teaching the piano is to start with a short interview where I assess your prior experience and ability. Then we will discuss your musical goals. Next, I devise a lesson plan for your specific needs. If you are a beginner, I’ll teach you form, explain the keyboard, notes, and basic theory. Simple relaxation techniques including deep breathing, focusing and stretching, in preparation to play the piano, will be introduced. Exercises to develop eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity will also be utilized. Then you will learn simple renditions of popular songs that you enjoy. If you have prior experience, more advanced techniques and exercises will be implemented. We will concentrate on dynamics, adding color and expressiveness to your playing, as well as ear training, sight-reading, and intermediate theory. Intense left-handed bass work is also emphasized. With consistent practice, you will feel more confident and enjoy better energy flow. Playing music increases your cognitive function, and, has been proven to give one an overall sense of well-being.
Hammond organ and synthesizer instruction is also offered to interested students.
Michael Miller helped me to build a solid foundation and passion for music. His teaching style makes learning fun and engaging rather than turning it into a chore. The knowledge and inspiration I gained from his lessons gave me excellent momentum in my musical journey.
When our son was 9 years old, we signed him up for piano and keyboard lessons with Michael Miller. Little did we know that this decision would create the cornerstone of a great musical foundation for him. He went on to form the indie band Sol Seed in high school, which was voted the best band in Eugene, Oregon for five consecutive years. Music and songwriting have been a lifelong passion for him and he has Michael Miller to thank for that. The best part was seeing them perform together when Michael sat in on a local show almost twenty years later! We highly recommend Michael Miller for his great talent and inspiration to sprouting musicians.
I have a degree in music and have played my whole life, but I can’t do what you did last night. Thanks for the great show!
